Brits laugh when they hear about Americans who have never been abroad.
We call them insular.
But who are we to call anyone insular? We’re the island that wants out of the European Union.
I proved the point when I visited New York in February.
I couldn’t work out why Times Square was so busy. Massive crowds, and media trucks everywhere.
A TV crew from CNN interviewed me. "How does it feel to be in New York the week before SuperBowl?" the reporter asked.
"I didn’t know it was on,’" I replied. "I’m not a fan of baseball …"

Personally, I can't stand any of the American sports. Baseball, American football, ice hockey. You name it - it was all really boring.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I do like doing is going down the pub on a Saturday morning in New York and watching the Premier League.
It's great because unlike in the UK, they are allowed to broadcast the 3 o'clock kick off games live.
